Psychodynamic Therapy
Understanding What’s Beneath the Surface

Have you ever found yourself reacting in ways you don’t fully understand—repeating the same patterns in relationships, feeling stuck in cycles of anxiety, or carrying emotions that don’t seem to have a clear cause?

Psychodynamic therapy focuses on what’s happening beneath the surface. It helps you explore how your past experiences, unconscious thoughts, and early relationships may be influencing how you feel and behave today.

How does Psychodynamic Therapy Work
Reprocessing response to distress and trauma

Psychodynamic therapy is a form of counselling that looks at the deeper root of emotional difficulties, rather than just the symptoms.

Instead of only focusing on what’s happening right now, we explore:

⬩ Past experiences and relationships

⬩ Unconscious thoughts and feelings

⬩ Repeating patterns in behaviour

⬩ Emotional triggers and responses

By bringing these into awareness, you can begin to understand why you feel the way you do—and start making lasting changes.

What Psychodynamic therapy can help you with

Feel stuck in the same patterns or behaviours

Struggle with anxiety, stress or low mood

Find relationships difficult or repetitive

Experience emotions that feel overwhelming or confusing

Have unresolved past experiences or trauma

What Happens in a Session?
Sessions are calm, confidential and led at your pace.

In times of need, I understand that it can be difficult to face your issue and a therapist at the same time. Clients are encouraged to explore and speak freely about anything that comes to mind, such as: current issues, fears, desires, goals etc, however, there’s no pressure to have all the answers. The process is about gently uncovering insights together.

We’ll begin by exploring what’s brought you to therapy, and over time we may look at:

⬩Your past experiences and how they’ve shaped you

⬩ Patterns in relationships and behaviours

⬩ Thoughts and feelings that may sit just outside your awareness

We will establish Key points in all the issues discussed. Focusing on recognising, expressing and overcoming negative feelings and repressed emotions.

Is Psychodynamic Therapy Right for You?
This therapy may suit you if:

Many people come to therapy knowing something doesn’t feel right, but not knowing exactly why. This approach helps connect the dots so may suit you if:

⬩ You want to understand the root cause of how you’re feeling

⬩ You’re open to exploring your past and patterns

⬩ You’re looking for long-term emotional change, not just quick fixes

If you’re unsure, we can always talk it through together.

What Results Can You Expect?

Psychodynamic therapy is often a deeper, more reflective process compared to short-term approaches. Clients will start to discover and explore new methods and learn to analyse and resolve current issues to change their behaviour through this deep analysis of earlier experiences and emotions.

Over time, you may begin to:

✔️ Recognise patterns you weren’t aware of before

✔️ Understand emotional triggers more clearly

✔️ Feel less controlled by past experiences

✔️ Develop healthier ways of coping and relating to others

Change doesn’t happen overnight—but it tends to be more meaningful and long-lasting.

  • It varies from person to person. Some people attend for a shorter period, while others choose longer-term therapy to explore things more deeply. We’ll work at a pace that feels right for you.

  • Rather than giving direct advice, I help you understand your thoughts, feelings and patterns so you can make your own meaningful changes.
